Learning with Simon
Simon says: I began teaching when I helped Hein Zeylstra with the start of the NIMH School of Phytotherapy in Tunbridge Wells in 1978, working with him for another 20 years. In the 1980s I co-founded a university complementary health masters programme in Exeter, in the 90s a herbal programme at Thomas Jefferson University Medical School in Philadelphia. In the 2000s I led an integrated health programme at Peninsula Medical School, Exeter, and then from 2002. the first herbal masters programme in the USA at Maryland University of Integrative Health. For 30 years I have happily partnered with Professor Kerry Bone in writing key herbal texts and teaching, notably in the Mills and Bone Academy webinars. I have presented at Harvard, Johns Hopkins and UCLA medical schools in the USA, various venues in Australia, and am visiting professor at South Pacific College of Natural Medicine in Auckland.
Throughout I have been passionate in regrounding herbal medicine. It was born out of intensive human experience, and is best used as a tool for navigating the interior and to nudge the body’s massive healing capacities. For me plants are very powerful if they are fitted correctly to those internal readings. Some people have referred to this work as ‘energetics’. I prefer talking about a medicine of experience and qualities, immersed in practical physiology, one that is measured only by its capacity to move us along,
My own education, after my grounding in physiology at Cambridge and a constant updating of the literature for teaching purposes, has been 50 years intensive scrutiny by thousnds of patients. They need results rather than wishful thinking.
This is my first solo outing, so will welcome your support in getting started!
